Capital City Rowing League

Arshay Cooper, the author of A Most Beautiful Thing, frequently discusses the concept of ‘access to opportunity.’ We believe that when given the chance, our children can thrive in the sport of rowing.  Not only can they excel in rowing, but through the sport learn important life skills including teamwork, fitness and discipline.  Rowing can broaden their horizons by providing diverse opportunities and travel beyond their local environment.

“Capital City Rowing has not only introduced our students to the sport of rowing but has also instilled in them a sense of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance that will serve them well throughout their lives.” Paul P. Bethea, Principal, Joyce Kilmer Intermediate School, Trenton, NJ (Click here to read Principal Bethea’s full letter)

The Capital City Rowing League works to bring indoor rowing to intermediate and middle school students from the Trenton area as a step to getting them into boats in high school.   Through the program teams of approximately 15 students are established at each participating school.  The teams participate in local and region indoor rowing competition including the Capital City Rowing League Championship in June.

PNRA partners with Trenton area schools to place indoor rowing machines in the schools.  PNRA works with the school to train their internal resources to become USRowing certified coaches to lead the school’s team.

The teams also have an opportunity to experience on the water rowing at the Caspersen Rowing Center.

We are already in 7 area schools and have requests to expand to more schools.

Coupling this program with our STEM to Stern Program that we jointly run with Princeton University and the Mercer Junior Rowing Program, we are able to provide students with a meaningful opportunity to grow through the sport.
